Memorial Hospital Recognizes Nurses
May 4, 2015Martinsville, Va. (May 4, 2015) – Michele Pilon, Chief Nursing Officer for Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County announced today that the hospital will celebrate and recognize the importance of its nursing staff during National Nurses Week, to be celebrated May 4-8, 2015 at the hospital and its facilities. The festivities will kick off on Monday, May 4th with birthday cake and ice cream for all nursing staff in honor of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing as a modern profession. Throughout the week, nurses employed by the hospital will enjoy free food, drawings, prizes, service awards, and the first annual “Shop at Work Day”.
On Wednesday, May 6, Memorial Hospital will host its Nurse of ExcellenceAwards. Each hospital department nominates a nurse for the Nursing Department Excellence Awards. The department winners are voted on by their peers for their commitment and level of care to their patients and co-workers, as well as t heir community involvement. The overall Nurse of Excellence winner for 2015 will be selected from these candidates.
On Friday, May 8, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Memorial Hospital employees, patients and the public are invited to the first annual “Shop At Work Day”, where sixteen vendors including “Thirty-One Gifts,” “Origami Owl,” “Tupperware,” “Sugar Beads,” “Tastefully Simple,” “Pampered Chef,” and more will have items for sale. The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a non-profit organization, which provides patient support and assistance to those in the community lacking resources to maintain their health, will be selling delicious homemade treats, while Dipper’s Ice Cream will have their popular ice cream from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
“Nurses Week is an important time for our hospital to spotlight the accomplishments of our dedicated nursing staff”, said Pilon. “Nursing is a very demanding job; and our nurses need to know how much we all appreciate and value their compassion and commitment to quality care for their patients, physicians and the community.”
